1 Quote, 1 Truth, 1 Action
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.
Nelson Mandela publicly spoke out against racial segregation in South Africa and was punished with 27 years of imprisonment for his activism. As a result of his boldness in the face of adversity, he helped dismantle Apartheid and became South Africa’s first black president.
There is a high price to pay for boldness, but I higher cost of silence. And great leaders know this. Maybe you are not risking 27 years of imprisonment for your thoughts, but instead face social rejection, loss of friendships, and maybe a few customers. Speaking up for what you believe is a fruit of authenticity, and authenticity attracts others more than anything.
Today, as you go about your work, consider the opportunities you have to share your thoughts and those you have missed. Raise your hand and share your opinion. Be constructive, but be honest. Listen to others. Let new ideas shape your thoughts.
True leaders are bold, dynamic and authentic.
Speak up.
