Generations of Greatness

I had a really cool experience this week. My grandma was in town and I hadn’t seen her in years. My dad happened to have a copy of my book and gave it to her.

She wanted me to sign it and asked me to leave a special note. So I wrote:

“May this bless you. Thanks for being a great Grandma and starting the generations of greatness.”

Those last three words actually came to me as I was writing her note. Then I immediately recalled a family reunion in 2002 in Washington DC. The theme of the event was “Generations of Greatness.”

🤯

A phrase I almost entirely forgot had so much significance in that moment. My dad was not raised by his dad but became a good dad. He wanted me and my brothers to have a better life than he had and with more opportunities. Now I am a dad and I want even more for my children: for them to be even more purposeful, confident and proud of who they are.

I wrote about generations of greatness in Chapter 11, Scaling Your Organization:

“Build, not for your own sake, but for the future generations.”

Generations of Greatness.
