Welcome to the Path to Publishing series, where I share with you the process of getting my new book, Business in the Bible, off my lap top and into the hands of eager readers. First, a little bit of background.
Inspiration for the Book
My inspiration to write this book began many years ago, while sitting in church. My pastor, in his sermon, stated that God knows everything and can help us with any problem. He knows cars, finances, business. That really stuck out to me. I knew this, but I never felt it until that point. It was not long after, also while sitting in church, that i formed the idea of writing a book called Business in the Bible, which highlights practical business principles found in the Bible. Well, I stewed on that idea some more, even started typing in a few notes on my phone and lap top.
But in 2023, the last catalyst for action occurred. Once again – you guessed it – in church, I heard another message from my pastor, who mentioned that each of us are destined to do something. What is God calling you to do right now? Well, it was clear to me to begin writing this book, and that is what I did. I wrote faithfully each day, at home, and from my phone while away at my son’s soccer practice, at my daughter’s gymnastics, in bed, and sometimes the dinner table.
I had to restart my old habit of getting up at 4am. I know people that have started books and never finished, and I did not want to be one of them. For this project to be successful, it would take significant effort, but if I took baby steps each day, I would achieve the goal of finishing the draft of the book by my birthday in August. To cross the finish line, i would have to stretch my comfort by writing much more often. While continuing the habit of writing at kids practice may not be the healthiest long-term, I knew there was a finish line and I had to get there.
One point about the finish line. I would learn that, as a first time author, while finishing the draft of book is an achievement, it is actually the starting line. From this point on, you embark on the path to publishing. And this is where we begin. Stay tuned:
