Monday Empowerment: Be Present in the Now

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. — Matthew 6:34

When you are goal-driven, your days are like tunnel vision; you only see the end. Everything around you is a blur and a moment to pass. You want that end goal. You seek that achievement, purpose, fulfillment. Other times, life is like walking through fog. We cannot even see what is right in front of us, let alone miles down the road of our lifetimes.

In both cases, we want a life of purpose and significance. Here is your encouragement: so does your Heavenly Father. In fact, He has special plans for you. Sometimes those plans are evident, and others they are merely hints of varying degrees. In any case, let your knowledge of God’s divine purpose for you be confidence to persevere, a reminder that where you are today is where you should be, even if it is temporary.

Everything happens for a reason, and even in the difficult, unpleasant and painful seasons, there is work being done in your life. Preparation for His huge plans to use you. Even better, He is using you right where you are today. Don’t miss this season thinking too hard about the next. Be present in this moment. In that meeting, with those children, with your spouse. Give it everything. Soak in it, even when it hurts. Being present today prepares your or tomorrow’s promise.

What are you trying to get past today? What would it look like to just be present through those moments?
