My family and I recently had the opportunity to observe our golden doodle transition into motherhood. She gave birth to six cute puppies. Since we got her as a puppy only a few years ago, witnessing the full circle from baby to mother on such a short, observable cycle, reminded me of the profoundness of generations.
Dogs are an accelerated version of generational changes. We watched our puppy grow into a mom and have her own little puppies. This beautiful, energetic tan doodle became a mother to a golden brown doodle with a his own little fun personality. Suddenly, our first puppy knew how to be a mother. She watches over the fella and hardly lets him leave her sight.
It made me think about our own human generational shifts. I was once a kid collecting Pokémon cards and watching X-Games every summer; it doesn’t feel like it was that long ago. Now I have four of my own, who play with their toys and ride bikes today but will someday be parents to grandkids I have not yet met.
Unlike golden doodles, what we humans do today affects the next generation tomorrow. Today, we are in a season of sowing. Tomorrow will be the season of reaping.
Today we sow by:
✔️Showing up each day at work
✔️Exercising restraint as we interact with our strong-willed child
✔️Setting our family up for a financial legacy by investing wisely
Tomorrow, we reap by:
✔️Building a career and leaving an impact that we are proud of
✔️Having wonderful relationships with our adult children
✔️Enabling our children and their children to have even more opportunities to shine than we did
Your future generations thank you.
