Morning Empowerment: Ideas Do Not Make History Books. Actions Do.

We glamorize ideas and those who come up with grand visions and plans. Unfortunately, we discount what it takes to make those ideas and visions happen. For every thousand ideas, only a few actually make it to the finish line. Why is that? Execution — going out and doing the work — is harder than ideas. Ideas certainly matter, but they are meaningless without the ability and push to get them off the ground.

It would not have been enough for Alexander Graham Bell to think of a communication device. He had to design the telephone and prove it worked. The Wright Brothers would not be known today if they imagined a flying manned vehicle. They had to actually get in the plane and fly it themselves. Martin Luther King, Jr. didn’t just talk about his dreams. He marched, protested and ultimately died executing the idea. Ideas do not make history books. Actions do.

Plan, dream, envision, then test your concepts. At some point, you must put your pencil down on the business plan and go execute. Those investment ideas have to be tested with actual dollars. The relationship dreams and goals…you have to actually take it to the next level. Precisely where ideas end, so does the safety net. And this is where the rewards are. I believe you have no shortage of ideas. Now go execute.

What ideas do you need to test today? What is the next step?
