“What is often called exceptional ability is nothing more than persistent endeavor.” – Pauli Murray, American Civil Rights Activist, Lawyer and Author
A Failed Masterpiece
When Brazilian authorize Paulo Coelho first published the Alchemist in 1988, it was not a success. Coelho’s first publisher stopped publication after printing only 900 copies. Thankfully, he retained the rights to his creation. Later, when Coelho’s next novel, Brida, was published by a larger publisher, he was able to reprint the Alchemist. The second time around, it immediately reached the Brazilian best-seller list, prompting tours and more production of his book. Since then, it has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide, won several literary awards and has been translated into 65 million languages.
Had Paulo Coelho quit writing, the world would not have known his powerful masterpiece about a shepherd boy’s journey for treasure.
Persistence Pays
How many of your efforts do you look back on and wonder what would have happened if you kept going? Well, that is behind you. But looking ahead, what is it that you’d like to see make it out of your head and into reality? What steps have you taken? How consistent are you? If you have a bad day, will you stop?
Persistence pays no mind to bad days or negative emotions. Persistence persists. Put your feelings and doubts aside for just moment and finish the task. Each day.
Keep going.
