2 Ways Leaders Avoid Burnout

The Workplace Has A Leadership Problem

According to the DDI Global Leadership Forecast 2025, 40% of stressed‑out leaders have considered leaving leadership roles to improve their wellbeing.

Two reminders for leaders:

1. Remember Your Why

Leadership is Stressful.

In the workplace, leaders have more responsibility than they otherwise would and when you are burnt out, the pay may not seem to be “worth the headache.”

Understandable, when you are thinking small.

For leaders whose mission in life serves a bigger purpose, they understand the trade off of responsibility and comfort, ownership and blame, fulfillment and pain. It is worth it.

Even the greatest leaders felt like quitting, but their why was too big.

To reverse this trend, leaders need to remember their Why.

2. Prioritize Personal Wellbeing

Personal Wellbeing is Essential.

Leaders with high levels of pressure often neglect themselves.

Understandable.

Everyone and everything demands your attention. At the end of the day or a busy week, there seems to be little left for self.

However, there are some great examples of leaders who prioritize self-care and well being and here is the secret:

Self-first.

Carve out time for your self and make it sacred. My 4am workout routine is sacred. I did not and will not allow the fact that I have four children and work responsibilities to excuse my personal health and fitness.

Easier said than done. Yes, it is difficult. But these are habits of the successful.

Wise leaders know the process: Feel Well, Perform Well.

Let’s be a part of the solution to tomorrow’s leadership deficit.
