Step to the Front of the Crowd

You likely already know that the young David badly destroyed the giant Goliath and later became King of Israel, but I like to imagine that maybe David knew there was a chance he could lose that bloody battle. With no armor and only a slingshot and rocks, David could have died as a young boy in a fight with a giant, but he knew it was a worthy cause and it was more painful to see a whole army of trained soldiers stand by while everything they stood for was mocked. So David stepped to the front and did the job.

What would happen if you stepped to the front? The bold are rewarded by doing things others can but are afraid to. Most people are afraid to step in and respond to a threat, an immense challenge or complex problem. The rewards come to those who are willing to take the risk of losing and failing in front of their peers who stand on the sidelines.

What does it look like to step in the front at work? Sometimes getting the promotion is not about being selected, but being the one to take on the responsibility. It’s about taking extreme ownership for the outcome. Yes, it comes with blame but you emerge as someone who gets it done. Most importantly, you create a culture of boldness among those with whom you work. What about in ministry? No other churches are doing what you would like to attempt? It’s been done before, but unsuccessfully? Give it a try. Reach the community with your new strategy. How about with your content? Are you pushing the limits with your thoughts and ideas? Maybe some people are going to be annoyed. Ship it.

The world does not change by people sitting on the sidelines. It changes from the ten percent that come off the bench and emerge to the front. And my strong conviction is that those people are not handed a title, knighted or given permission. They step out based on faith and conviction that someone needs to stand up. So they do it.

Today, remove that fear that causes you to sit on the sidelines. Be bold,  stand up and step out on the things that matter in life and watch yourself begin to make a massive impact on the lives around you.

🧠 Where have you been on the sidelines? How will you step out?
