Wealth, Power or Wisdom?
When Solomon became King, the Lord offered him anything his heart desired. He could have asked for riches, power, even a lasting legacy. Instead, he asked for wisdom. Interestingly, he later achieved all of those things. But for Solomon, wisdom was most essential. King Solomon would go down in history as the wisest person of the land and wrote 3,000 proverbs about wisdom and wise living. In Proverbs 4:7 he wrote “therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Why was wisdom so important to Solomon?
He knew that wealth can be given and taken away. And so can power. Freedom, possessions and status are fleeting, but wisdom goes with you. In the absence of all those things, wisdom remains.
How Do We Get Wisdom?
So how do you get wisdom? Yes, you can ask God just as Solomon did. And certainly, God hears your prayers. More practically, wisdom is gained when you have a humble heart and a willingness to learn.
Today, I encourage you to seek wisdom both ways. Ask for it, and take advantage of every opportunity to gain it from today’s interactions and challenges.
