Morning Empowerment: The Power of Delegation

“If you want to do a few small things right, do them yourself. If you want to do great things and make a big impact, learn to delegate.” — John C. Maxwell

In the 1900s, Henry Ford had a huge vision to make the automobile available to the average American. He saw the destination but could not do it without a trusted team with key skills and talents. So he delegated pieces of this big mission by hiring a team.

Charles Sorenson and Harold Wills – Design Engineering

James Couzens – Operations Management

Albert Kahn – Architect for the plan which housed the first moving assembly line

Mr. Ford maintained the vision and direction of this massive automobile production goal while empowering his team to take on the key responsibilities.

By 1913 Ford and his team had implemented the first assembly line, forever changing the way automobiles were produced.

What is Delegation?

Delegation is not giving all the grunt work to someone else. Delegation is strategically assigning responsibility to others so that you and they can focus on the key areas.

Delegation allows for optimization of team skills and capabilities. It aligns the Why with the How and What.  When done properly, delegation moves teams and organizations forward through synergies and empowerment.

Try It

If your vision is big enough, you cannot do it alone. Use your team and delegate.
