Morning Empowerment: The Truth About Doubt

“Doubt is not the enemy of faith; it is the companion.” — David Whyte, English Poet.

Daily Doubt

Benjamin Franklin famously wrote in 1789 that the only certainty in this life is death and taxes. I would argue that  missed one: doubt. Doubt has existed since the beginning of time. The first example of doubt was when the serpent persuaded Eve that she could be better, that she could be like God. She began to doubt that God had given her and Adam His absolute best. From the point of their sin, doubt has been used as one of the primary weapons to destroy humanity and the spread of goodness. Doubt leads to hidden work.

Humans blink over 14,000 times a day…and probably doubt just as much.

When I got the idea to write Business in the Bible, I had a long list of doubts.

  • It would not be the best use of my time
  • My writing skills are terrible
  • No one would read it
  • I would offend people
  • It would get bad reviews

Those were just a few. But as my mother used to say, sometimes you have to do things “scared.” Thankfully, even though many of those doubts never went away, I pushed through and the book was published in August. The impact is far greater than I could have ever imagined. Imagined if I let doubt win.

The Truth About Doubt

You are in a spiritual battle. Doubt destroys momentum and dreams even before it happens. Even though it may not ever truly disappear, you can keep moving forward in your purpose and in your work.

This week, think about doubt differently. Instead of an enemy of your faith, think of doubt as evidence of your faith! Each time you doubt,  consider that you are onto something great!
